What is ampicillin used for?
Ampicillin is an antibiotic belonging to the penicillin family: it is called a β-lactam antibiotic. It is the first semi-synthetic penicillin. Medication is widely used in the treatment of infections caused by gram+, gram- and anaerobic microorganisms.
Ampicillin (alone or in combination with sulbactam) is used in the treatment of acute and chronic infections.
Ampicillin vs Amoxicillin
Both antibiotics are prescribed to treat infectious diseases. Amoxicillin affects a wider range of Gram-positive bacteria than Ampicillin and is usually better tolerated. However, Ampicillin has the advantage that it can be given intravenously.

Ampicillin: dosing
The dosage of oral ampicillin always depends on the age, condition, and type of disease the patient is suffering from. Usually, it is a 250 or 500 mg dosage of ampicillin at regular intervals of 6 or 12 hours, although meningitis may require up to 2 grams of the antibiotic every 4 hours.
On the other hand, ampicillin in ampoules is given intramuscularly or intravenously. Depending on the patient's condition and the course of the disease, 12.5 - 50 mg of the drug is given once every 6 hours per kilogram of body weight. Ampicillin capsules protect the stomach and take effect directly in the intestine, increasing the drug's effectiveness.

The drug should be continued for 48-72 hours after the disappearance of symptoms (except for the treatment of gonorrhea).
Treatment should be continued for at least 10 days in the case of β-hemolytic streptococcal infection.

Ampicillin is excreted with breast milk in small amounts. Caution should be exercised when prescribing ampicillin to breastfeeding women, as it may cause sensitization in breastfed infants.

Notice Left
If no one is at home at the time of delivery, the status of you order on the Postal System will be updated to “Notice Left” which means USPS attempted to deliver your item and a notice was left because an authorized recipient was not available. You may arrange redelivery by visiting or calling 800-ASK-USPS, or may pick up the item at the Post Office indicated on the notice. If this item is unclaimed after five days then it will be returned to the sender. You can pay for reshipping $24.95 in order to receive a new tracking number.
