Augmentin is a drug made up of two components. The main ingredients are Amoxicillin, which is semi-synthetic penicillin, and Clavulanic acid. Combining these two substances allows Augmentin to fight more bacteria than antibiotics containing only Amoxicillin.
Amoxicillin clavulanate potassium is the Augmentin generic version used to treat infections.
Augmentin liquid is used to treat infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobes, coagulazonegative staphylococci, and anaerobic bacteria. But despite this, some strains are quite resistant to the antibiotic.
Augmentin: Contraindications
Do not take the drug if you exhibit the following conditions:
-
Sensitivity to the components that comprise the drug
-
Jaundice, that caused by elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood (a substance produced by the liver). There may be yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes
-
Sensitivity to the beta-lactam group: Cephalosporins, Carbapenems, or Monobactams.
The drug may cause vomiting, nausea, and candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes. It often causes diarrhea and stomach pain.
What does Augmentin treat?
An Augmentin antibiotic is prescribed by a doctor to treat infections in adults and children that are caused by microorganisms that are sensitive to Amoxicillin.
Augmentin medication is used for such diseases:
- The middle ear and sinus infections
- Bronchitis and uncomplicated pneumonia
- Pyelonephritis
- Skin and soft tissue infections, including dental infections and infections of the bones and joints.
Augmentin may make some conditions worse or cause serious side effects. These include allergic reactions, seizures, and inflammation of the colon. You need to pay special attention to certain symptoms while treating your child.
Augmentin: dosage
The Augmentin sp dosage calculation is determined by your child's age and weight. The daily dose is calculated in mg of the active substance per kg of body weight.
The frequency of administration of the suspension is 2 times per day every 12 hours.
What to do, if you have taken more Augmentin, than prescribed
If you give your child more Augmentin than prescribed, the child may get an upset stomach (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) or cramps. Tell your doctor and follow the instructions.
If you forget to take Augmentin
If you forget to take your regular dose of Augmentin, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take another dose too soon, but wait about 4 hours. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Augmentin pediatric dose
Always give this medicine exactly as your doctor has prescribed it.
Augmentin suspension is not used in children with a bodyweight of less than 40 kg.
The recommended dose is 25 mg/3.6 mg to 45 mg/6.4 mg per 1 kg body weight per day, administered in two doses.
The highest dose is up to 70 mg/10 mg per 1 kg body weight per day, administered in two doses.
Continue to give your child until treatment is finished, even if he is feeling better. Each dose is needed to fight the infection. If the bacteria are not killed, the infection may return.
The duration of treatment with Augmentin antibiotics, as with adults, depends on the severity of the infection and should not exceed 14 days.
Warning. For children younger than 2 years, a safe dose of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid in the proportion 1:4 above (40 mg + 10 mg)/kg/day has not been studied. Also, there are no clinical data regarding the use of 7:1 doses of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid in children under 2 years of age in the amount stated above (45 mg + 6.4 mg)/kg m.t./day.
For children younger than 2 months of age, the recommended dosing regimen of 7:1 Amoxicillin Clavulanic Acid cannot be determined due to a lack of available clinical data.
Does Augmentin cause diarrhea?
Yes, taking antibiotics often causes side effects such as diarrhea. Antibiotics fight the bacteria that cause disease, but can also weaken the microflora in the digestive tract.
Disfunction stools occur in adults and children. This should not be a reason to stop an antibiotic on its own. This decision is made by the doctor to prevent relapses and side effects.
Diarrhea is suppressed by a digestive diet, drinking plenty of fluids, taking electrolytes, and medicines that restore bacterial flora.
Augmentin and alcohol
Augmentin with alcohol may reduce its effects and make treatment less effective. Antibiotic therapy weakens the body, so drinking alcohol at the same time is not recommended.

What you should know about brand and generic drug alternates.
Prescription drugs are a costly medical expense, especially for the elderly, those who are chronically ill and those with no or minimal drug coverage on their Health Insurance. However, each state in America has a law that allows pharmacists to substitute less expensive generic drugs for many brand name products. Depending on your prescription needs, your savings could be very significant. Before you talk with your doctor or pharmacist about switching, there are things you should know about generic drugs.
What is the difference between a generic and brand name drug?
Nothing except for the name, packaging, and the price, a generic drug is called by its chemical name; manufacturers assign their own brand name. The generic products have the same ingredients. Standard practice and most state laws require that a generic drug be generically equivalent to its brand name counterpart. That is, it must have the same active ingredients, strength, and dosage form, be it a pill, liquid, or injection. The generic drug also must be therapeutically equivalent. It must be the same drug chemically and have the same medical effect.
Do all drugs have generic equivalents?
No. Some drugs are protected by patents and are supplied by only one company. However, when the patent expires, other manufacturers can produce its generic version. Currently, about half the drugs on the market are available in generic form.
Will my doctor automatically prescribe generic drugs?
It depends on the physician. You can ask your doctor to write a prescription permitting substitution of a generic drug product when appropriate or to define the chemical name for the prescription. This will ensure you are purchasing the correct Mexico drug. Generic products will be as effective and less costly. Or, you can order only brand name products if you wish. www.MedsMex.com.com Mexico pharmacy offers a wide selection of both Brand Name & Generic Mexico medicine. Our Mexican generic drugs are of the highest quality, selected only from the most reputable manufacturers, and are safe to replace brand name medications costing much more.
