What is Enalapril?
Enalapril is a medicine that contains the productive ingredient Enalapril. One tablet of Enalapril 10mg corresponds to ten milligrams of Enalapril maleate. Secondary components: lactose; monohydrate; potato starch; microcrystalline cellulose; anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide; talc; calcium stearate.
What is Enalapril used for?
Medication Enalapril is designed to overcome such an ailment as high blood pressure. Its action begins an hour after intake and is active for 6 hours, reaching a maximum effect. At the same time, during 24 hours, with the properly chosen dose, it keeps the blood pressure in the normal range. The drug is quickly, by almost 60%, absorbed and excreted by the kidneys with the urine. The advantage of Enalapril is that its action does not affect the cardiac activity and blood vessels.
Use of Enalapril
Enalapril medication is a remedy aimed at reducing blood pressure. It is taken regardless of meals. Also, Enalapril 10 milligrams, can be used to treat severe heart failure, in the form of asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction, and its prevention.
Side effects of Enalapril
Enalapril medication has the following side effects:
- decreased hemoglobin; aplastic and hemolytic anemia; autoimmune disease; bone marrow depression; decreased hematocrit; agranulocytosis;
- confusion; drowsiness or insomnia; depression; drowsiness; unusual dreams;
- blurred vision;

Enalapril is contraindicated in cases
Enalapril medication should not be used by people who are sensitive to Enalapril or its constituents, as well as to other similar drugs used to regulate blood pressure; if angioedema has been identified in the past when using blood pressure-lowering drugs; concomitant use of Enalapril with drugs that contain aliskiren; people with diabetes mellitus or impaired renal function; women planning to become pregnant or who have already become pregnant.
Dosage of Enalapril
Enalapril 10mg is not dependent on food intake. It can be taken with or between meals. The number of milligrams of Enalapril is selected individually, depending on the condition and well-being of each patient.
If Enalapril Vasatek is prescribed less than 5 mg, it is worth using Enalopril with appropriate dosage.
The dosage amount of milligrams of Enalapril depends on the degree of comorbidities. For example:

For arterial hypertension, it’s prescribed Elanapril 10mg. Start with 5mg at 24 hours, gradually increasing to 20mg/24 hours. The dose will depend on the degree: from moderate to extremely high. Usually, the maintenance dose is 10-20mg per 24 hours, but for very high blood pressure it can be up to 40mg per day, while constantly monitoring blood pressure jumps.

In asymptomatic left ventricular heart dysfunction or heart failure, Enalapril is taken in combination with diuretics and, if necessary, foxglove drugs or β-blockers. The following regimen is usually suggested for initial administration:
The first three days at 2.5mg in 1 daily dose. From the fourth to the seventh day, 5mg in 2 daily doses. On the eighth through the fourteenth day 10mg in 1 or 2 daily doses And from the fifteenth to the twenty-eighth day 20mg per day in 1 daily dose, or dividing it into 2 doses.
3. In renal insufficiency, depending on the degree of impairment:
- Minor impairments - 5-10mg per day
- Moderate - 2.5 to 5 mg per day
- For severe disorders, in which the patient is usually on hemodialysis - 2.5 mg per day of dialysis, for such patients, it is recommended to consider another hypotensive agent.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include the following complications:
- too low blood pressure, usually manifesting itself 6 hours after ingestion;
- increased ventilation of the lungs;
- renal failure;
- a life-threatening condition of circulatory failure;
- rapid heartbeat;
- anxiety;
- sudden cough;
- the feeling of anxiety.
In such cases, it is necessary to put the patient in a horizontal position. If the medicine has not been taken long, you can drink coffee or eat something salty. Give drink to the victim 2 glasses of water, which will increase the volume of blood and thus put pressure on the walls of blood vessels. Measure your blood pressure periodically. But the best way is to call an ambulance.
In what cases is it not recommended to take?
Enalapril is not recommended for children under six years of age. According to observations, there is some, limited experience of safe and effective use of the drug for high blood pressure in children over 6 years of age, but for other diseases, the drug is not used.
Pregnant women and women planning pregnancy should not use Enalapril, as it may cause toxicity in the fetus in the form of renal failure, persistent hypotension, and disruption of the water-electrolyte balance.
During the period when the mother is breastfeeding the infant, Enalapril should also be discontinued, which may cause adverse reactions in the baby.
