Prednisone medication with thyroid hormones may decrease its effects. Increased action and toxicity are possible with concomitant use with estrogens, and antibiotics of cyclosporine series. Antacids reduce the absorption of the drug. The risk of gastrointestinal deterioration occurs when concomitant use of the drug with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and salicylates. Taking the drug simultaneously with cardiac glycosides increases their toxicity and may cause arrhythmias. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs used to treat blood pressure. May increase intraocular pressure.
The drug is not used with antidepressants because of the risk of increased depression. Combined with contraceptives may cause hirsutism and acne. Prolonged treatment increases the amount of folic acid in the body and decreases the absorption of vitamin D and calcium. It is better not to use it with antiemetics, fluoroquinolones, anticholinesterase drugs, muscle relaxants, somatotropin, and adrenal cortex inhibitors.
