The drug is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (up to 90% of the dose). Food intake slightly increases the absorption of Prozac. When taking the first dose, the effect is hardly pronounced and is achieved after 6-8 hours. The active substance accumulates well in tissues. Binding with blood plasma proteins is more than 90%. The half-life of the drug is 1-3 days when administered once and 4-6 days when administered for a long time. In liver cirrhosis, the period of drug therapy increases. During 1 week, the active substance is excreted unchanged through the intestine in 15%, but mainly by the kidneys in 80%. Excretion slows down in case of kidney diseases.
