What is Levoxyl used for?
Levoxyl (Levothyroxine Sodium) is a thyroid medication that replaces the hormone naturally produced by the thyroid gland and helps regulate energy and metabolism in the body.
When the thyroid gland malfunctions, the body lacks thyroxine, the main hormone produced and secreted by the thyroid gland. Thyroxine plays an important role in digestion, brain development, heart, and muscle function. Levoxyl is a generic (Levothyroxine sodium) which acts just like Thyroxine (known as T4), allowing the body to function normally.
Does Levoxyl have side effects?
Side effects are rare if the dosage of the drug is correct. But if the conditions of taking it are broken, symptoms such as:
- cardiac arrhythmia;
- palpitations;
- angina pectoris;
- frequent headaches;
- nausea and vomiting;
- anxiety;
- diarrhea and weight loss;
- elevated body temperature;
- menstrual irregularities and malfunctions.
If you notice these or any other unwanted effects, you should contact your doctor immediately. You may need to reduce the dosage or stop treatment for a few days. When the side effects disappear, you can continue treatment.
When is Levoxyl prescribed?
Your doctor can prescribe an individual dosage of Levoxyl medicine because it is different in each case. Some patients have been prescribed the drug during life.
Levoxyl medication prescribed in such cases:
- Treatment of benign (colloidal) euthyroid goiter.
- After surgical intervention as prevention of recurrence.
- Replacement therapy for hypothyroidism.
- In the case of thyroid cancer, Levoxyl is prescribed as suppressive therapy.
- It is an adjuvant drug during antithyroid therapy for hyperthyroidism.
- It is used during the thyroid suppression test.
Levoxyl should not be used to treat benign neoplasms, transient hypothyroidism, or thyroid enlargement in patients with normal iodine levels.
Levoxyl: Weight loss
Although the drug normalizes thyroid hormone production and thereby improves your metabolism, it is not considered a weight-loss drug. Your weight should stabilize during treatment, and you will not gain or lose weight.
What is the right way to take it?
Usually, the treatment of adult patients with this drug starts with a minimum dose. If necessary, it is gradually (over 1-3 months) increased until a therapeutic effect appears.
The doctor adjusts the dosage depending on the dynamics of the condition and hormone levels.
The daily dosage for adults and children is prescribed once. It is best to take Levoxyn generic in the morning on an empty stomach 30-40 minutes before breakfast, with a small amount of pure still water.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor in each case individually and depends on the disease and the severity of symptoms.
Levoxyl may reduce the effectiveness of hypoglycemic (sugar-lowering) drugs. Therefore, the first time after the start of treatment, it is necessary to monitor closely the level of glucose in the blood. If necessary, the dose of antidiabetic drugs can be adjusted.
Drugs and products containing aluminum, iron, and calcium salts can potentially reduce the effectiveness of Levoxyl. Therefore, you should take the drug at least two hours before taking drugs containing aluminum, iron, or calcium.
What special diet should I follow while I am taking this medicine?
Certain foods and drinks, especially those containing soy, nuts and dietary fiber, and grapefruit, can affect the effects of Levothyroxine. Talk to your doctor before eating or drinking these foods.
Contraindications
The presence of other medical conditions may be grounds for canceling the drug.
Make sure your doctor is aware of these conditions:
- Adrenal problems
- Angina pectoris (severe chest pain)
- Blood-clotting problems
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease (e.g., ischemia, arrhythmia)
- Osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal disorders
- Problems with the pituitary gland: use with caution

What special precautions should be taken?

Notice Left

If this item is unclaimed after five days then it will be returned to the sender. You can pay for reshipping $24.95 in order to receive a new tracking number.
